Proud Waves From Sprint (1 of 3)597 viewsSprint has created this very nice flagpole site at the Scottsdale Ranch Community Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. Note that each flagpole has a light illuminating the other flagpole's flag. The flags are in good condition. The equipment enclosure is the right in the photo (look for the GPS antenna). Points to Sprint for this design, save for the visible GPS antenna which should have been hidden.

Omni-directional Microcell on Sign593 viewsThis AT&T Wireless site, at Fairfax and Pico in Los Angeles, is an example of placing a microcell site atop an existing, small sign.
If you enlarge the photo, don't miss checking out the lid of the vault in front of the pole. The lid is a piece of plywood, apparently to replace the original concrete!
Nope, I don't want to drive my car over that lid, either!

Sprint microcell - Base Station, Backhaul, and Powering593 viewsThe base station is the large box. Below it is the interface box that extracts power from the coaxial cable backhaul system. Camo, almost matching... (1 of 2)577 viewsThis Cingular site is a good example of the need to carefully plan how much of an existing wall will be replaced with a fiberglass camo panel. In this case, the cut out portion of the wall, now replaced with a painted/textured RF transparent panel, is clearly visible. A better approach would have been for the carrier to cut from wood panel edge to panel edge so that the difference, if visible, would have been more uniform.
|
|

Sprint Camo Elevator Penthouse Site577 viewsIn West Los Angeles, Sprint's antennas are located in a faux elevator penthouse, and the base telecommunications station equipment is in the foreground on the left side. If you look closely on the top of the parapet you'll see a pair of AT&T Wireless (now Cingular) omnidirectional antennas. Those antennas are featured elsewhere in this gallery.

Side Saddle Microwave Dish Installation569 viewsAnother view of this cell site which uses a microwave dish antenna system to provide backhaul to the MTSO. The interesting note for this site is the side saddle (offset) installation of the dish antenna. In most metro installations, a microwave antenna saves the carrier the cost of leasing a telco dataline, but at the expense of adding visual loading to the project.

A "Sort-a-flaged" Site561 viewsLearning the techniques...and the results...of planning wireless sites can be demonstrated by this site. This result serves as a sound basis to continue to upgrade the camouflage techniques that are applied to projects of this type. Optimally, Sprint's BTS cabinet would not be visible, and the RF transparent panels would be incorporated into a rooftop treatment that doesn't call attention to itself.
